Open Spirit Community's Children's Program
Providing care and teaching for children ages birth through 5th grade
Open Spirit is committed to providing a dynamic, heart centered children's
ministry, grounded in spiritual principles that educate and assist our children in
developing their full potential as beautiful human and spiritual beings.
We believe it is our responsibility as adults to impart a sense that God is 'real,'
available here and now, ever and always present. A God who cares about
them, with whom they can talk to and rely on for guidance and support.
Additionally, we believe that Sunday school provides an excellent opportunity for
children to develop a strong sense of themselves, certain of their values and
morals because they have had the opportunity to explore and get to know their
'spiritual' selves in safety and security.
We also believe that each child is a unique expression of God and we are
dedicated to providing a curriculum that allows each child to become grounded
in the knowledge that God loves him and her. That s/he is a gorgeous soul
created in the image and likeness of a loving God. A variety of methods are
utilized in Sunday school to impart this awareness. Joy and fun are central to
our teaching. We incorporate the use of story, allegory, art, music, nature, bible
and stories from other religious traditions to expose them to the wonder and
glory of God. It is our goal to equip each child with a little 'tool box' of spiritual
tools from which they can confidently draw as they embark on the journey that
their individual soul has been called to.
